Educational Activities in Opole Using Mobile Chests
At the Opole Branch of the Instytut Pamięci Narodowej, educational sessions dedicated to the history of the Ulma Family were shown. Alongside a seminar for teachers from the Opole Voivodeship. Both initiatives incorporated mobile chests. These tools enabled participants to watch the VR-based short film “Testimony of HELP” and supported a seminar aimed at enhancing the digital competencies of educators.
Immersive Lessons in Opole in Connection with the National Day of Poles Rescuing Jews under German Occupation
During the classes, mobile chests were used as a modern educational resource. Students had the opportunity to view the short film “Testimony of HELP”, which presents the story of the Blessed Ulma Family. During the German occupation, the family provided shelter to Jews despite the risk involved. The tragic conclusion of this story—the brutal murder of the entire family along with those they were hiding, following a denunciation—highlights the profound moral dilemmas faced under conditions of terror.
Thanks to virtual reality technology, students were able to step into reconstructed interiors modeled on those from the 1940s, reflecting everyday life in a rural area of the Subcarpathian region. The combination of historical artifacts—such as photographs and documents—with narration delivered from the perspective of six-year-old Basia Ulma allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of the events of that time.
Seminar for Teachers Enhancing Digital Competencies
A seminar for teachers from the Opole region was also held at the Opole Branch of the Institute of National Remembrance. The event attracted numerous educators interested in both expanding their historical knowledge and exploring innovative teaching methods. Participants were welcomed by Ewa Drop, Deputy Director of the Department for Educational Development at the Opole Superintendent of Education Office. Speaking on behalf of the Opole Superintendent of Education, Joanna Raźniewska, she emphasized the importance of teachers’ commitment to professional growth and the responsibility inherent in their role.
During the seminar, a wide range of educational materials developed by the Institute of National Remembrance was presented, including educational portfolios, films, and introductory exhibitions. Particular attention was drawn to the presentation of “Testimony of HELP”, delivered by IPN educator Krystian Chrobak. Teachers had the opportunity to personally experience VR technology, immersing themselves in the narrative of the film.
Mobile Chests for Students and Teachers
Both the school activities and the teachers’ seminar formed an important part of broader educational efforts aimed not only at conveying historical knowledge but also at fostering civic attitudes, empathy, and respect for others.
