Vote for the initiatives of the New Technology Division of the Institute of National Remembrance in the Historical Event of the Year competition

Voting has commenced in the Historical Event of the Year 2024 competition. This is another unique opportunity to recognise innovative initiatives that combine modern technologies with historical education. The New Technology Division of the Institute of National Remembrance won the “Education” category in 2022. Vote in this year’s edition and support immersive historical education.

What is the Historical Event of the Year competition?

The Historical Event of the Year is a competition organised by the Polish History Museum in cooperation with the historia.org.pl portal. The competition recognises the organisers, creators, and initiators of the most interesting historical projects of the past year, promoting Polish history and culture both in Poland and abroad.

Voting takes place in two stages. In the first stage, initiatives are submitted – including exhibitions, archaeological discoveries, conferences, educational projects, films, games, and books. In the next stage, a jury composed of representatives of the organisers and experts in the fields of science and culture selects five projects in each of the following categories: “Exhibition”, “Event”, and “Education”. The final decision is made by internet users through a nationwide vote, which runs until 25 August.

“Cyphers Game” – the winning project in the 2022 edition (Education category)

In 2022, the educational project “Cyphers Game” won the Education category. The game explores the little-known achievements of Polish cryptologists. Players are tasked with, among other things, breaking the Bolshevik cipher and neutralising enemy armoured trains. The events take place during the Polish-Soviet War of 1920. “Cyphers Game” has been included in the core curriculum.

Initiatives of the New Technology Division of the Institute of National Remembrance Nominated

Two outstanding projects from the New Technology Division of the Institute of National Remembrance have been named among this year’s finalists. In the “Education” category, the educational adventure game “Aviators – War in the Skies” was nominated. In the “Event” category, the project Mobile History of the Future Point received a nomination.

“Aviators – War in the Skies” (“Education” category)

This educational adventure game allows players to take on the roles of Polish pilots fighting in the Second World War. The PC version is available in 12 language versions and 2 sign languages, while the VR version is offered in 11 languages. The title officially launched on 24 January 2024 at the prestigious Bett London education and technology fair, where it gained international recognition. It has since reached young people and educators around the world, fulfilling its mission and establishing itself as an international educational solution.
