Attractions accompanying the premiere
To make sure that event participants were able to enter the world of “Aviators” even more smoothly, the New Technology Division took care of additional attractions and the design of the space.
Bofors 40 mm anti-aircraft gun
The Bofors 40 mm anti-aircraft gun was very popular. During combat operations, this gun was perceived as the best in its class. The whole gun weighs 2,460 kg and its vertical range is as much as 7,200 m.
The stand with the gun was accompanied by crates, sandbags, ammunition copies, and a rangefinder, thanks to which a complete anti-aircraft position was reconstructed.
Reconstruction stands
In total, guests visited three reconstruction stands, referring to the events and scenography presented in “Aviators”.
The first stand was devoted to Polish female pilots flying in the British Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA). Presented were, among others: basic sets of women’s uniforms, biographies of Polish female pilots serving in ATA, and elements of equipment and personal equipment of female pilots.
The second stand featured the tasks and everyday life of volunteers from the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (PLSK). The entire stand was built to replicate the equipment of a field canteen at the airport. The history of PLSK was presented along with basic sets of uniforms, as well as an original British Philips military bicycle from 1944.
The third stand, that of the RAF airport service, presented the nature and equipment of the airport service from World War II, the airport apron checkpoint equipment (optical, communication and light communication equipment), sets of uniforms of RAF pilots and staff, as well as the original Hilmann Minx vehicle from 1938.
