On the digitisation of history education
In an interview with Magdalena Hajduk, Director of the New Technology Division, Prof. Jan Pomorski talks about the implementation of educational projects using new technologies and the impact of new technologies on the methodology of history teaching.
Prof. J. Pomorski (Maria Curie-Skłodowska University) has been dealing with issues of new technologies in education for at least 10 years, i.e. since the establishment of the Research and Development Centre for E-Humanities at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. He is involved in a number of projects focused on the transformation of methodological awareness in relation to the increasing introduction of new technologies into history teaching. This is very important because, on the one hand, we are introducing new technologies into educational programmes, but on the other hand, we need to redefine the role of the teacher in the educational process. In this age of ubiquitous access to information on the Internet, a teacher’s authority does not derive solely from his or her knowledge of the facts. This is why Prof. J. Pomorski points out to the need for changes in emphasis in the relationship between teacher and students: in the digital age, the primary role of the teacher becomes helping the student to build their own personality and develop their own skills.
