New Technology Division invites you to the Congress of National Remembrance

Next month, PGE Narodowy in Warsaw will be the venue of the Congress of National Remembrance, where unique attractions prepared by the New Technology Division await you. First of all,  on 13-14 April, the second stage of HISTHACK hackathon  will take place. It will be participated by 16 best teams of secondary school students selected in the first stage of the competition. They will face a challenge, the content of which will be revealed at the start of the Congress. During the two-day event, participants will have an opportunity to showcase their programming skills by creating innovative solutions that have the potential to change the way history is taught.

Currently, the first stage of the competition is still ongoing. It began on 14 February and its completion was initially scheduled for 14 March, but due to numerous requests from interested schools, the deadline for accepting applications has been extended to 17 March. In the first stage, the task of the participants is to develop a script concept for an educational computer game related to the history of Poland in the years 1917-1990. Only an outline of the game script concept must be provided in the application. There is no specific format required, and there is no need to present a finished game script. Inspiration can be drawn from the finished gaming product “Cyphers Game”.

For everyone interested, we have prepared the New Technologies Zone, dedicated in particular to the youngest participants of the meeting. In a specially arranged space, young people will be provided with computers and VR headsets to explore modern educational projects prepared by the Institute of National Remembrance. Another attraction will be the discussion panel “Immersive history education – towards new educational pathways”, during which we will reflect on educational needs and effective ways of transferring knowledge to young people shaped by the digital revolution. Panel participants will not only point to possible solutions, but they will also reflect on potential threats to be tackled in the near future, such as the deepening gap between generations (the so-called generation gap) or the consequences of the dominance of sensory cognition (the so-called one-dimensionality).

Projects implemented by the New Technology Division as part of the Congress of National Remembrance fit into the broader context of educational policy, aimed at adapting teaching methods to the expectations and skills of young generations who – whether we want it or not – are developing in the era marked by virtual reality.
