New Technology Division at the Rejewski’s picnic

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Rejewski Picnic took place on Mill Island in Bydgoszcz – a free, open-to-all event commemorating the 120th anniversary of Marian Rejewski’s birth. The beautiful summer weather highlighted the family-friendly atmosphere, while the organizers provided not only a rich program but also ensured the comfort of participants and exhibitors.

An educational picnic in Bydgoszcz

Marian Rejewski was an outstanding cryptologist and mathematician who broke the keys to German ciphers. He led the team responsible for breaking the “Enigma” code. His life and achievements were the focus of the educational picnic on Mill Island in Bydgoszcz.

Visitors could enjoy ten thematic stations offering attractions for children, teenagers, and adults. Participants had the chance to try their hand at encryption, logic games, puzzles, and discover the secrets of robotics and programming. Scientific shows and stories about Rejewski and other prominent figures from the world of science also drew great interest.

The IPN New Technology Division participated in the event for the second time, showcasing its portfolio.

Cyphers game presented in Bydgoszcz by The New Technology Division

At the picnic, guests could attempt to break Bolshevik ciphers and neutralize fearsome armored trains. In Cyphers Game, the first gaming project of the IPN New Technology Division, players take part in events that determined the outcome of the Polish-Soviet War.

Participation in the game was available in the IPN New Technology Zone. The presence of the IPN New Technology Division at the picnic was an opportunity to show how technology can support historical education and facilitate access to knowledge about the past.

Cyphers Game is available for free on PC and VR (virtual reality), allowing everyone to become part of the cryptologists’ work and experience the challenges they faced.
