New Technology Division at the 18th NNW Film Festival in Gdynia
Gdynia once again becomes a meeting place for film, history education and new technologies. On 1 October, the 18th edition of the International Film Festival NNW (Niepokorni Niezłomni Wyklęci) opened. Alongside the film screenings and events, visitors can explore educational games and applications presented in the IPN New Technology Division’s New Technology Zone. Admission is free.
The 18th International NNW Film Festival with the participation of the IPN New Technology Division
This year’s festival runs from 1 to 4 October. Its programme features dozens of films from around the world, accompanied by historical and industry panel discussions, filmmaking workshops, and meetings with filmmakers and witnesses to history. Events are taking place at the Leszek Kopeć Gdynia Film Centre and in the festival’s open-air venue at Grunwaldzki Square.
For many years, the NNW Festival has extended beyond the traditional format of a film event. It provides a space for intergenerational dialogue, the exchange of experiences and the exploration of new ways to tell stories about history – not only through film. The New Technology Zone is part of this broader programme, offering visitors the opportunity to experience immersive history education through educational games and applications.
Another edition of the festival with our participation
Previous editions of the NNW Festival have demonstrated that modern approaches to history education appeal to audiences of all ages. During the 16th edition, the New Technology Zone welcomed, among others, Captain Władysław Dąbrowski, a 100-year-old veteran of the Battle of Monte Cassino, who used a VR headset to watch a film etude dedicated to the Ulma family.
For years, we have welcomed all festival visitors, regardless of age or digital skills. The New Technology Zone offers an opportunity to develop technological skills, discover innovative approaches to education and explore Poland’s recent history. Visitors can do so through the educational projects presented on site, available for PC and VR.
A festival that tells stories of freedom
For eighteen years, the International Film Festival NNW has brought together filmmakers, witnesses to history and audiences interested in Poland’s past and the stories of those who fought for freedom. Its programme encompasses both documentary and feature films, as well as meetings, panel discussions and educational initiatives. Alongside the film programme and the New Technology Zone, the festival also features open-air historical exhibitions and book presentations.
The NNW Festival is a unique space where history education, cinema and people who consider the memory of the past an important part of contemporary identity come together. The participation of the IPN New Technology Division demonstrates how modern technologies can bridge generations and open up new ways of telling historical stories. We invite you to visit the New Technology Zone and join us during the remaining days of the festival.
