IPN New Technology Division Zone at CD-Action Expo
On 1-2 July, the second edition of CD Action EXPO, the biggest event for gamers in this part of Poland, took place in the Centennial Hall.
This year, in addition to celebrating the 27th birthday of the cult magazine CD-Action together with its editors, event participants were able to experience immersive projects in the New Technology Division Zone of the Institute of National Remembrance. We are talking about the cult “Cyphers Game”, which has already been downloaded from Steam by more than 130,000 people worldwide, as well as the
“Szybowcowa ’87” app. Both were created using VR (virtual reality) technology and were very popular with visitors to the New Technologies Division Zone.
“Cyphers Game”, which in June 2023 was voted by internet users the Historical Event of the Year 2022 in the Education category, tells the story of the Polish-Bolshevik war. Players can break Bolshevik cyphers in real time and determine the course of the most important events of that period.
“Szybowcowa ’87” is set during the times of Polish People’s Republic (PRL), when oppositionists printed “blotting paper,” i.e. the anti-communist publications of the Fighting Solidarity, hiding the printers in private flats for fear of potential raids by the Security Service officers. Users of the app were able to impersonate active opposition activists and feel “first-hand” the specifics of those times. At the stand, it was also possible to get acquainted with the “Digital Heroes” project, i.e. holograms of historical figures – Andrzej Gwiazda and Krzysztof Wyszkowski – as well as educational podcasts “Latest history, latest technology.”
