Days of the polish traditions – a hussar picnic took place in Pułtusk
The event kicked off on Saturday, September 15, at 1:00 PM. The main highlight was a meeting in the Castle’s conference hall, dedicated to the role of the hussars in Polish history. Additional attractions included cannon salutes, a mounted cavalry show, film screenings, and a musical. Guests could also visit the New Technologies Zone of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN).
A weekend full of historical emotions in Pułtusk
The historical picnic in Pułtusk opened with a conference titled “United Hussars for the Good of Poland.” This was followed by performances and reenactments, including the National Tournament for the Ring of the Lion of Lechistan. There were also demonstrations of hussar drills, cannon salutes, talks on the history of the hussars, and sword-fighting and equestrian competitions.
Sunday was equally packed with attractions. In the morning, there was a march with King Jan III Sobieski to a solemn Mass, and after 1:00 PM, the Victory Parade of Vienna took place. Following these activities, the Grand Finale of the Polish Hussar League was presented, where the best hussars in Poland competed in lance combat.
IPN’s New Technologies Zone, Mobile Bookstore, and History Stop Office at the Historical Picnic in Pułtusk
Guests had the opportunity to visit IPN’s New Technologies Zone, where the New Technology Division showcased educational projects. Available games and apps enriched the event throughout its duration, providing educational entertainment for both young people and adults. The combination of reenactments with immersive historical education offered a fresh, unique perspective on discovering and learning about history.
The History Stop Office presented educational historical films such as “What You Didn’t Know About Monte Cassino” and “What If Animals Could Speak: Wojtek the Bear.” Anyone interested in the story of Wojtek the Bear had the opportunity to follow his journey and discover the achievements of the famous corporal throughout the event.
Additionally, throughout the weekend, IPN’s mobile bookstore was available on-site, where picnic participants could explore historical publications from the Institute and purchase books, comics, or historical albums with a 25% discount.
