Deputy Mayor of Opole, Maciej Wujec, was among those who spoke, highlighting the significance of the Uprising for the entire nation:
“In a military context, the Warsaw Uprising was an action against the Germans. However, ideologically, it was also a fight against communism. We, Poles, have a mandate to loudly oppose all aggression and dictatorships. And we nurture this memory of the heroism of the Polish insurgents. Last year, we unveiled the monument of Colonel Witold Pilecki.”
