Armed Forces Day with the IPN’s New Technology Division in Świdnica
On 13 August 2023, the celebrations to mark the Armed Forces Day and the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw, held in Świdnica, were attended by a large number of participants, including representatives of patriotic organisations, the army and the local community. The event was organised by the Świdnica Patriotic Association in cooperation with Mr Ireneusz Zyska, Government Commissioner and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
The main aim of the event was to commemorate the heroic achievements of the Polish Army and to celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw. The event was distinguished by the prestigious participation of organisations such as the World Association of Home Army Soldiers and the Association of Freedom and Independence. The event also enjoyed the patronage of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery and the Bishop of Świdnica.
A valuable element of the picnic was the New Technology Division Zone of the Institute of National Remembrance, which showcased the “Szybowcowa ’87” app and the “Cyphers Game.” Particularly important during the commemoration of the events of August 1920 is reminding Poles of the significant contribution of Polish cryptology to the victorious end of the Polish-Bolshevik war. The “Cyphers Game” project takes the player into the world of the war that defined Europe at the time. Its plot begins in October 1920 during the battle for Korosteń – a key railway junction and technical and supply base.
Participants in the picnic had the chance to move back in time and space, experiencing historical events and learning about the achievements of Polish heroes. The stations provided in the Zone proved to be of great interest to both younger and older visitors, enabling them to take a virtual journey through important moments in our past.
During the event, representatives of the military and patriotic organisations who were present, provided information and shared their knowledge of Polish history. This enabled participants in the commemorations to broaden their knowledge and better understand the historical background of the commemorated events.
