About “Cyphers Game” and armoured trains in 1920 – Otwock
On 24 October 2022, the mobile showroom came to Otwock. It was stationed in Witold Pilecki Square and open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event was attended by, e.g., students from the Kornel Makuszyński Primary School No. 12 and Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński Secondary School No. 1 – visitors turned up in large numbers throughout the day.
The ceremony of greeting the students was conducted by Adrianna Paradowska, Deputy Director of the Office of New Technologies of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), Jarosław Tomasz Margielski, Mayor of Otwock, and Zbigniew Siedlewski, Deputy Director of the Warsaw Branch of IPN. The substantive support for the visitors was provided by Andrzej Kryński from the Warsaw Branch of the National Education Office of IPN.
Local media, including TVP3 Warszawa, also participated in the event.
Otwock is one of the places where the tradition of the Polish-Bolshevik War is still alive. During the Battle of Warsaw, which lasted several days, on 16 August 1920, a Polish armoured train “Danuta” arrived in Otwock, forcing a squadron of Bolshevik cavalry out of the city. Since 2020, the event commemorating the victorious battle – Night of Freedom has been held in Otwock on 15 August.
